Tartous, Apr. 15 (SANA) Three ships carrying 70,000 tons of wheat arrived at Tartous Port on Wednesday, as part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen the strategic grain reserve and secure local market needs.
Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Tartous and Latakia, Abdul Wahab Safar, said the shipments come within a series of contracts concluded by the Ministry of Economy and Industry through the General Establishment for Grain to supply Syrian governorates and ensure daily flour requirements.
Safar noted during an inspection tour of unloading operations that approximately 1.3 million tons of wheat have been imported since liberation via 57 vessels. He added that specialized teams have begun unloading the shipments, with part of the quantities being stored in port silos, while the rest is transported directly to governorates by trucks and rail in coordination with the railway corporation.
While port authorities said that three additional wheat vessels are currently waiting offshore and will be docked and unloaded as soon as possible.
On the same context, a vessel had arrived at Tartous Port earlier this month, carrying around 45,000 tons of wheat.
