New York, March 18 (SANA) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, said the country is moving forward on a comprehensive national path reflecting the sacrifices and values of the Syrian revolution, emphasizing ongoing efforts to rebuild institutions and restore stability.
Speaking at a UN Security Council session, Olabi highlighted political steps led by Syrians, including the establishment of transitional justice bodies, continued institutional development, and recent parliamentary elections. He stressed commitments to national integration, including implementation of agreements with the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces), as well as new measures recognizing Kurdish citizens as an integral part of Syrian society and guaranteeing their cultural and linguistic rights.
Olabi also pointed to progress on the international level, including Syria’s re-engagement with global financial systems, efforts to combat drug trafficking, cooperation with international mechanisms on chemical weapons and human rights, and participation in the international coalition against ISIS. He called for greater international support focused on investment rather than aid.
At the same time, Olabi warned of ongoing Israeli violations in southern Syria and urged the international community to take action. He reaffirmed that Syria aims to rebuild as a unified, diverse state, expressing appreciation for international support and stressing that the country is entering a new phase of recovery and reintegration following years of the Syrian revolution.
