Homs, Feb. 17 (SANA) — One civilian was killed Tuesday and another injured after a landmine, left over by the ousted regime exploded in the eastern countryside of Palmyra, local officials said.
The blast occurred in the al-Shahma area near the village of al-Aliyaniyah, south of Palmyra, while the two civilians were traveling by vehicle, according to Zaher al-Salim, head of the public relations office of the Palmyra district administration.
The injured man was admitted to Palmyra National Hospital for treatment, while the body of the victim, identified as Mansour al-Jadaan, was handed over to his family.
Hospital director Dr. Walid Ouda said the injured civilian is in stable condition despite sustaining shrapnel wounds from the explosion.
Landmines and unexploded ordnance left behind by the deposed regime remain a major threat across Syria’s desert regions, posing serious risks to civilians. Authorities in Homs province continue demining operations to clear affected areas and improve civilian safety.
