Ohnmacht added that 18th of March 2011, is a date engraved within the memory of all Syrians. “On that date the revolution started from Daraa, where Syrians lived through years of destruction, loss and displacement, but today they raise their voices together for peace and hope” affirming the EU’s solidarity with them.
He concluded that: “The 2011 revolution was launched on March 18 as an expression of public anger against decades of oppression, corruption and tyranny under the ousted regime. Despite years of detention, killing and displacement, Syrians kept the spirit of the revolution alive until it was crowned by the declaration of victory and liberation on December 8, 2024.”
