Damascus, Feb. 27 (SANA) – EU Charge d’Affaires to Syria Michael Ohnmacht called Thursday’s meeting between a European delegation and Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani “fruitful,” pledging to deepen ties.
The delegation, led by Rosamaria Gili, director for the Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service, discussed high-level political dialogue, recovery support, and refugee returns, Ohnmacht said Friday on X.
“We look forward to continuing constructive dialogue and strengthening cooperation to promote stability,” he added.
The visitors reaffirmed backing for Syria’s government efforts and expect soon to upgrade the EU mission’s diplomatic status in Damascus, while reviving past agreements—including reviewing frozen clauses—as Syria reintegrates internationally.
