Aleppo, Mar. 7 (SANA) The Syrian Civil Defense announced on Saturday that its teams recovered at dawn the bodies of two men from under the rubble of the residential building that collapsed on Friday in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood, Aleppo, bringing the death toll to four, three men and one woman.
Earlier on Friday, rescue teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disasters Management recovered the bodies of a man and a woman from under the rubble of the five-storey building. Initial information indicates that around ten people may still be trapped under the debris, including a family of seven members.
Emergency teams immediately evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution to protect residents. Faisal Mohammad Ali, operations commander at Aleppo’s Emergency Directorate, confirmed that search operations are continuing under strict safety measures to ensure the safety of both residents and rescue workers.
Following the incident, authorities in Aleppo declared a state of alert to support rescue efforts under the direct supervision of Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib.
The incident comes amid repeated warnings about damaged or structurally unsafe buildings in several neighborhoods of Aleppo, due to heavy damage to the city’s infrastructure during past bombardment, in addition to the aging of some buildings and poor maintenance.
