Syria signs deal with Jordan to import 4 million cubic meters of natural gas daily

Damascus, Jan. 26 (SANA) Syria and Jordan signed on Monday an agreement to deliver approximately 4 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (140 million cubic feet) to Syria, in a move aimed at stabilizing the country’s electricity system.

The deal was signed at the Syrian Ministry of Energy between the Syrian Petroleum Company and Jordan’s National Electric Power Company.

Under the agreement, gas deliveries began on January 1 via the Egyptian-leased regasification vessel Energos Force at Aqaba port, with daily volumes ranging from 30 to 90 million cubic feet. Jordan’s National Electric Power Company is also arranging a new floating regasification unit (FSRU) to replace the current vessel and ensure uninterrupted supply.

Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir said the deal will help secure fuel for power plants, diversify gas sources, and improve electricity reliability. Jordanian Energy Minister Saleh al-Kharabsheh noted that the agreement supports the stability of Syria’s electricity network and strengthens bilateral energy cooperation.
