Damascus, Feb. 20 (SANA) – Syria’s Ministry of Justice announced on Friday that it has issued in-absentia arrest warrants against individuals linked to serious violations committed against the Syrian people during the period of the deposed regime.
Judge Tawfiq al‑Ali, the seventh investigative judge in Damascus, told SANA that judicial police units had conducted extensive investigations into hundreds of suspects accused of crimes and grave abuses.
He said the cases were referred to the Ministry of Justice and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, after which public lawsuits were filed and the files transferred to investigative courts, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants to bring the suspects before justice.
The Public Prosecutor has previously initiated legal proceedings against a number of figures accused of involvement in violations, including Atif Najib, Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, Mohammad al‑Shaar, Ibrahim Huweija, Wassim al‑Assad and Daas Hassan Ali, among others.
The ministry said the measures are part of an ongoing judicial process aimed at accountability for serious crimes against the Syrian people, reinforcing the rule of law, and advancing transitional justice in Syria.
