Emergency Minister, IFRC discuss updating Syria’s disaster management law

Damascus, Feb. 15 (SANA) – Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh discussed with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) President Kate Forbes and Syrian Arab Red Crescent President Hazem Bakleh ways to update Syria’s disaster management law in line with international standards.

The meeting focused on strengthening emergency preparedness and response, developing a multi-sector early warning system, and prioritizing mine action, war remnants clearance, and rubble removal to protect civilians and property. Both sides agreed to expand technical cooperation and training programs to enhance institutional readiness and support stability in Syria.

The talks are part of broader coordination with international partners aimed at improving disaster governance, mine action capacity, and recovery efforts across the country.
