Damascus, Feb.11 (SANA) The head of the Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, has issued Decision No. 1 of 2026 establishing a sub-judicial committee in Raqqa province for the Raqqa and al-Thawra electoral districts.
According to the decision, published on the committee’s Telegram channel, the move is based on the provisions of the Constitutional Declaration, Legislative Decrees No. 66 and No. 143 of 2025, and Justice Ministry Decision No. 234 of 2026.
The committee will be chaired by Judge Ibrahim Khalil al-Hassoun, with Judges Mahmoud Jomaa al-Ahmad and Jassem Saleh al-Jaber serving as members.
It is tasked with reviewing and adjudicating objections and appeals related to the remaining 2025 People’s Assembly elections in Raqqa province for the two districts concerned. The Raqqa Palace of Justice has been designated as the venue for receiving appeals and objections in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
The Higher Committee said the step is part of ongoing legal and administrative measures to complete the electoral process, ensuring judicial safeguards for citizens and enabling them to exercise their constitutional rights in line with the law and the approved timetable.
Committee head Dr. Mohammad al-Ahmad also met on Monday with Raqqa Governor Abdul Rahman Salama to discuss preparations for organizing the electoral process in the province.
Raqqa comprises three electoral districts. Two representatives were elected for the Tel Abyad district in late October, while preparations are under way to elect three representatives for the Raqqa district and one representative for the al-Thawra district.
Parliamentary elections were held on October 5 in most governorates, while voting in Sweida and parts of Hasakah and Raqqa was postponed to later dates.
