Syria praises Lebanese cooperation, calls prisoner agreement a historic milestone

Damascus, Feb. 6 (SANA) Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Shaibani praised Lebanon’s efforts in finalizing the agreement concerning Syrian prisoners in Lebanon, stressing that the step represents a historic milestone in resolving a humanitarian issue troubling the Syrian people, and serves as a foundation for strengthening strategic ties between the two brotherly nations.

Al-Shaibani expressed, in a post on platform (X), gratitude to the Lebanese government and President Joseph Aoun for their fruitful cooperation that led to the signing of the agreement today. He also extended high appreciation to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and France for their significant support.

The Foreign Minister commended Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais, along with teams from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, and the Intelligence Service, for their dedication in successfully resolving this humanitarian case.

Earlier today, Syria and Lebanon signed an agreement in Beirut providing for the transfer of convicted Syrian prisoners from Lebanon to Syria.
