Lattakia, Feb. 5 (SANA) Lattakia Governorate on Thursday launched the “By Our Hands We Revive It” campaign to plant more than 14,000 saplings at several forest sites, as part of efforts to expand green cover and promote volunteerism and community responsibility.

During the campaign’s launch at the al-Basit site, Governor Mohammad Othman said the initiative was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management to rehabilitate areas damaged by fires in recent years. He noted broad participation by volunteer teams, youth groups, and local residents in reforestation work.

Othman added that the campaign seeks to restore life to affected areas and revive the natural beauty of landscapes across the governorate.

Director of the Syrian Civil Defense at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, Munir Mustafa, said the campaign is being implemented across Syria to restore green spaces, having begun in Damascus and its countryside before expanding to Homs and Hama and reaching the coastal region, with plans to include other governorates later.

Mustafa explained that Lattakia’s phase targets planting more than 14,000 saplings, with the possibility of increasing the number to cover additional sites damaged by wildfires, contributing to their rehabilitation and return to greenery.

The campaign comes within environmental recovery programs implemented by government bodies in cooperation with community actors following forest fires that struck wide areas of Latakia’s countryside in recent years, causing significant loss of vegetation and prompting initiatives for ecological rehabilitation.
