Syria expands rehabilitation of social centers and employment platforms in 2025

Damascus, Jan. 1 (SANA) The Syrian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor intensified its efforts in 2025 to develop social services, rehabilitate key centers, expand labor market platforms, and elevate Syria’s presence in international forums.

The ministry’s media center said that the ministry has revived the national labor market platform to boost employment opportunities by linking job seekers with employers and facilitating access to training and skills development services to support sustainable workforce growth.

Social Services

In partnership with the Al Habtoor Group, Minister Hind Kabawat signed a $2.5 million memorandum of understanding to rehabilitate and equip the Institute for People with Multiple Disabilities in Dummar, Damascus Governorate. The institute serves over 30,000 beneficiaries annually. The initiative also includes establishing vocational training and educational centers for people with disabilities, as well as services for child beggars, to promote social reintegration.

The ministry expanded capacity building through training workshops on social services, national disability reporting, and child protection. Additionally, the ministry pushed forward strategic frameworks that tackle multidimensional poverty, drafted social protection and cash transfer programs, and started developing a national employment strategy to integrate youth into the workforce.

Social Support

Over 475,000 retirees received pensions in 2025, more than 2.275 trillion Syrian pounds were disbursed in retirement benefits since liberation, and a new Social Insurance branch opened in Idleb. The registration of 1,407 non-governmental organizations across Syrian provinces was completed to strengthen the civil society infrastructure.

International Cooperation

The ministry represented Syria at several important events, including the 113th session of the International Labour Conference, the ESCWA Conference in Beirut, the International Family Forum in Turkey, and UN General Assembly meetings on youth and women’s rights. Additionally, ministry officials participated in peace and development dialogues to reinforce cross-border institutional cooperation.
