Damascus, July 19 (SANA)    Syria’s Internal Security Forces have arrested Karam Hafez Ibrahim, a former military officer of the deposed regime wanted for war crimes against civilians and subsequent sabotage activities, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.

According to initial investigations, the suspect graduated from the Military Academy with a specialization in artillery and served in several military formations, the ministry said in a statement posted on its Telegram account. He commanded an artillery group in Sweida province and took part in shelling residential neighborhoods and civilian areas in Daraa province during the revolution years, before being transferred to combat fronts in Homs and Idlib.

Investigations also revealed Ibrahim’s involvement in the events of March 6, 2025, when he participated in targeting a security convoy and headed to the Naval Academy to shell security forces with artillery, the ministry said. He fled after security forces regained control of the area.

The suspect also took part in an incitement gathering at the invitation of Ghazal Ghazal, and possessed a firearm intended for use against security forces, in addition to communicating with an individual and tasking him with monitoring Internal Security Forces movements, the ministry added.

The arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts to pursue and hold accountable officials of the ousted regime involved in crimes and violations against the Syrian people, based on the principle of ending impunity, achieving transitional justice, and ensuring the rights of victims and their families.
