Damascus, May 10 (SANA) Head of the Syrian National Transitional Justice Authority Abdul Basit Abdul Latif said Sunday that the questioning of Atef Najib reflects ongoing efforts to hold those responsible for serious violations and crimes committed against Syrians accountable.

In a statement posted on X, Abdul Latif said the trial demonstrates that “the path of accountability continues” and that serious crimes and violations committed against Syrians “are not subject to a statute of limitations.”

Earlier Sunday, the second session in the trial of defendant Atef Najib began before the Fourth Criminal Court at the Palace of Justice in Damascus.

The hearing was attended by victims’ families, members of the National Transitional Justice Authority, and representatives of international legal and humanitarian organizations.
