ISF in Lattakia arrest two suspects in severe abuses against civilians

Internal Security Forces in Lattakia Province have arrested two individuals on charges of committing severe violations against civilians, the Interior Ministry announced on its Telegram channel Sunday.

The arrests followed the circulation of a 2012 video showing a citizen being subjected to beatings and torture by members of the “defunct regime” during the raid on the Raml al-Janoubi neighborhood, which later resulted in his death. After reviewing and matching the images of those appearing in the footage, authorities were able to identify the suspects and locate their residences.

According to the ministry, the detainees confessed to the acts attributed to them, including assaulting and torturing the victim and forcing him to utter offensive phrases, in addition to participating in the arrest and mistreatment of numerous young men. The suspects have been referred to the competent judicial authorities to initiate the necessary legal procedures.
