“With Our Hands, We Revive It”: Community-Led effort to rehabilitate Latakia’s burned mountains

Latakia, SANA – Latakia Governor Mohammed Othman along Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh announced on Tuesday the launch of the “With Our Hands We Revive It” campaign to restore green forests, restore mountains that were exposed to fires, and help people whose homes and lands were damaged, noting that the efforts made over the past days have been tremendous.

Othman said in a joint press conference: “Over the past six days, there has been a great deal of solidarity and effort from everyone to overcome this great ordeal that came to Latakia Governorate and showed the cohesion of our society”.

The governor glorified the efforts of the firefighting teams that came from all Syrian governorates and from Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. He also thanked all those who contributed to putting out the fires and overcoming this difficult stage, including civil organizations and associations that helped provide logistical support and basic needs for volunteers and civil defense teams.

al-Saleh stated that the launching this campaign proves that the Syrian people are the sons of a 7,000-year-old civilization and are able to build their country from the ashes to create a new Syria and rebuild the damaged area.
