Syria participates with eight athletes in Kickboxing Club World Cup

Damascus, SANA-The Syrian Federation for Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Mixed Martial Arts is set to compete in the Kickboxing Club World Cup, organized by the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), in Budapest, Hungary, from June 12 to 15.

Syria will be represented by eight athletes: Mohammad Rahhal, David Kaliniouk, Mohammad Iskak, Abdul Rahman al-Murhej, al-Abbas Hatem, Osama Qassem, Ryan al-Kakouni, and Ihsan Allah Maarouf.

Adding to Syria’s presence, international Syrian referees Khaled Hajji and Rateb Hathet will officiate bouts, highlighting Syria’s notable technical participation in both competition and organization.

Saria al-Jazaeri, head of the Syrian Kickboxing Federation, stated to SANA that the World Cup is considered one of the strongest and most significant tournaments on the international federation’s agenda.

Al-Jazaeri added that the World Cup annually draws over 2,500 athletes from around 40 countries, with expectations of an even higher turnout this year, underscoring the importance of Syria’s participation in this global sporting event.

He also noted that this participation provides a significant incentive for the athletes to gain experience and increases their chances of competing in the official World Championship for national teams, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi next November.
