Damascus, Aug. 25 (SANA) Al-Nidal Sports Club is upgrading its facilities and expanding youth programs across several sports as it seeks to develop young talent for its teams.
Founded in 1983, Al-Nidal occupies a 22-dunum site (22,000-square-meter) in Damascus. Its activities cover the Al-Shaghur, Dweila, Bustan al-Dour and Ibn Asaker areas, while its location at the southern gateway to Damascus countryside also allows it to attract young athletes from nearby areas.
Club President Fakhri Jallab told SANA that the administration was developing the club’s infrastructure and investment projects alongside its sporting talent. He said the club this year upgraded a field to European specifications, including new infrastructure and artificial turf.
The club has also established an administrative complex and is working with the governorate to complete licensing procedures.
Al-Nidal offers football, judo, karate, taekwondo, boxing, wrestling, women’s table tennis and swimming.
Summer programs develop young athletes
The club’s summer school runs from early June through the end of August for boys and girls aged 5 to 13, offering swimming alongside football, karate, judo, boxing and taekwondo.
The program is supervised by the club administration and run by qualified coaches, with standout participants selected to join the club’s teams.
Swimming coach Bashar Matar said between 150 and 200 children attended morning sessions, with participants aged 5 to 15 receiving training in swimming fundamentals and basic techniques.
Football coach Ahmad Jawabra said the summer school also attracted players born between 2010 and 2019, with around 20 joining the club’s age-group teams by the end of the program.
Al-Nidal athletes have won numerous medals in domestic and international competitions, while the club’s facility upgrades and youth programs aim to strengthen its teams across different sports.
