Amman, July 3 (SANA) Syria’s men’s basketball team secured a place in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup after defeating Iraq 91–81 in Amman on Thursday.
The win in the third qualifying window of the first round lifted Syria to seven points in Group C, level with Iran, with Syria advancing in third place. Jordan top the group with eight points, while Iraq finish fourth with five.
Syria controlled much of the contest against Iraq in a competitive matchup before sealing a double-digit victory.
The result confirms Syria’s progression to the next stage of qualification, where they will face Iran in their final match of the current window on Sunday at the same venue.
