Aleppo, June 1 (SANA) Ahli Aleppo announced the signing of American guard Zach Lofton as part of efforts to strengthen the first team ahead of the final phase of the Syrian Men’s Basketball League.
Lofton, 31, is a 1.91-metre-tall American point guard who most recently played for Al-Ahly Cairo in the Basketball Africa League. He previously featured for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA and has extensive experience across European, Asian and Arab leagues.
The club said the signing is expected to bolster its foreign-player roster during the decisive stages of the season.
A native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Lofton played collegiate basketball for Texas Southern University and New Mexico State University, where he earned All-Western Athletic Conference First Team honors after averaging 20.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in his final season.
After a brief stint with the Detroit Pistons and their NBA G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive, Lofton continued his professional career with clubs in Germany, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, the Philippines and Taiwan.
Ahli Aleppo hope the addition will strengthen their bid for the Syrian league title and support the team’s ambitions in the upcoming knockout rounds.
