Damascus, April 30 (SANA) Al-Wahda secured a 61–52 victory over city rival al-Thawra in the first game of the Syrian Women’s Basketball League final on Wednesday at Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus.

Al-Wahda led 33–24 at halftime and maintained its advantage through the second half to seal the win and move one step closer to retaining the title it won last season.

The two teams will meet again on May 2, with a third game scheduled for May 5 to decide the champion.

Al-Thawra reached the final after defeating Al-Ahli 64–48 and 71–68, while Al-Wahda advanced by overcoming Al-Shabiba 71–40 and 61–45.

Al-Wahda now holds 10 league titles, compared with seven for Al-Thawra.
