Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 12 (SANA) Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup for a record 16th time, edging out archrivals Real Madrid 3-2 in a thrilling final at the King Saud University Stadium in Jeddah on Sunday.
The Catalan side’s goals came courtesy of Brazilian winger Raphinha, who scored twice — once in the 35th minute and again in the 73rd. Robert Lewandowski also found the back of the net, with his goal coming in the third minute of stoppage time in the first half (45+3’).
Real Madrid fought back through Vinícius Júnior, who scored in the first minute of added time in the first half (45+1’), and Gonzalo García, who netted an equalizer just moments later in the 45+6’ minute.
Barcelona reached the final after a commanding 5-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, while Madrid advanced following a narrow 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid.
With the win, Barcelona extended their lead as the most successful team in Super Cup history, now holding 16 titles to Real Madrid’s 13.
