New York, Feb. 27 (SANA) U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack said Friday that the detainees and captives exchange carried out in Syria’s southern province of Sweida was an important step toward stability.
In a post on X, Barrack said the United States helped facilitate the swap, which was conducted in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He described the operation as having proceeded “smoothly and in an orderly manner.”
“Families reunited. A step away from vengeance and a step toward stability,” he wrote.
On Thursday, the Syrian government released 61 detainees from Sweida and received 25 captives held by the so-called “National Guard” militia. The operation took place under the supervision of the ICRC.
