Damascus, March 9 (SANA) Syria said it will allow staff of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and their families to transit through its territory in response to the humanitarian situation in Lebanon.
Saad Baroud, director of the Department of International Organizations at Syria’s Foreign Ministry, told SANA that Syria had approved a request by the IFRC to permit its personnel and their families to pass through Syrian territory when needed.
The transit arrangements will be coordinated with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to facilitate travel procedures and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers, Baroud said.
The decision comes as Lebanon faces worsening humanitarian conditions following Israeli military escalation since the beginning of the month, which has triggered large waves of internal displacement.
The IFRC is among the main humanitarian organizations operating in the region, and the decision is intended to help ensure the continuation of relief operations and provide safe passage for aid workers.
