Nicosia, March 2 (SANA) Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said Monday that Britain’s Royal Air Force base at Akrotiri was struck overnight by an Iranian-made Shahed drone, causing minor material damage.
In a statement reported by Reuters, Christodoulides said Cyprus was not involved in any military action and had no intention of joining one, adding that the country “does not participate in any way and does not intend to be part of any military operation.”
His remarks came a day after the leaders of Britain, France and Germany issued a joint statement saying they would “take steps to defend our interests and those of our allies in the region, particularly by preventing Iran from launching missiles and drones.”
The United States and Israel have continued for a third day to carry out strikes inside Iran, while Iran has launched missiles and drones at Israel and targeted several Arab countries, causing casualties and infrastructure damage.
