Capitals, Feb. 28 (SANA) Several Gulf states and Jordan came under direct Iranian missile and drone fire on Saturday, marking a dramatic expansion of the conflict after the joint U.S.–Israeli strike on Iran triggered a wave of retaliatory attacks across the region.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense reported that it successfully intercepted multiple attacks targeting the country, noting that high readiness, security vigilance, and coordinated efforts among relevant authorities enabled the response. The Qatari Civil Aviation Authority also temporarily suspended air traffic in the country’s airspace.
In Bahrain, authorities confirmed external attacks on sites and facilities within the kingdom, including a missile strike targeting the service center of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.
The United Arab Emirates announced that it had been targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles, which were intercepted by Emirati air defenses. The Ministry of Defense described the attack as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law, affirming the UAE’s full right to respond and take necessary measures to protect its territory and population.
In Kuwait, air‑raid sirens were activated across the country, and Kuwaiti sources reported that air defenses intercepted missiles that had entered national airspace before reaching their targets.
Jordan’s Armed Forces stated that two ballistic missiles aimed at the country were shot down.
Earlier in the day, the United States and Israel launched a joint airstrike on Iran, targeting dozens of sites in Tehran and other cities. Iran said it responded with dozens of ballistic missiles fired toward Israel.
