Damascus, Dec.11 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al‑Shaibani, received a phone call Thursday from Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, with talks dealing with the latest developments, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance joint cooperation in various fields.
Minister al‑Shaibani expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation for the support Canada provided to the Syrian people over the past fourteen years, and for its backing of the path of building the new Syrian state.
He affirmed his intention to paying an official visit to Canada next year, which would contribute to opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation.
For her part, Canadian Foreign Minister Anand congratulated Minister al‑Shibani on the achievements Syria has accomplished within one year since liberation, and the positive impacts these have had on the lives of Syrians and the return of stability to Syria.
She affirmed the Canadian government’s support for the Syrian Arab Republic, including its decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, in addition to Canada’s continued support for relief and development efforts inside Syria.
Both sides agreed on the importance of developing relations between the two countries in the fields of economy, investment, transitional justice, and demining, highlighting the vital role played by the Syrian‑Canadian community as a bridge of communication and rapprochement between the two peoples and in strengthening future partnerships.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that the phone call comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to deepen Syria’s international engagement and expand areas of cooperation with friendly countries, in a way that serves the interests of the Syrian people and enhances the path of stability and development.
