Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Kabawat, stated that Syria’s participation in the 6th Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers is of important significance as it marks the country’s reintegration into its Arab and Islamic world. It sends a powerful message of hope from Syria to the world, she added.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines the conference held in Doha the minister of social affairs said that Syria has been completely absent from such events for many years.
“today’s participation aims at meeting the aspirations of the Syrian people and strengthening cooperation with Arab countries.”
Kabawat outlined Syria’s current reform efforts in labor and social development, including a new strategy tailored to the country’s post-conflict, key initiatives include overhauling social protection systems, refugee and displacement issues, and introducing new legislation for NGOs and labor rights.
She emphasized the importance of vocational training, especially for the estimated one million Syrian children deprived of education due to war, calling it vital for long-term social and political stability.
Kabawat also highlighted the role of talented Syrian expatriates in supporting domestic reforms and expressed optimism about rebuilding Syria, citing the resilience of its people.
On regional cooperation, Kabawat praised Qatar’s humanitarian support and expressed Syria’s interest in leveraging Qatar’s advanced labor market experience, particularly in vocational training and social insurance. She voiced hope for integrating skilled Syrian labor into Qatar’s workforce, noting their adaptability and professionalism.
