Syria, Belgium Explore Cooperation to Upgrade Ports and Maritime Transport

Damascus, Jan.27 (SANA) Head of the General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, discussed Tuesday with the Belgian Development Agency (ENABEL) prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation and developing Syria’s maritime transport sector and ports.

The two sides explored the possibility of establishing port twinning arrangements between Syrian ports and their Belgian counterparts, enabling the exchange of technical and administrative expertise and benefiting from Belgium’s advanced experience in port management, operations, and logistics services.

The talks also addressed opportunities for cooperation in maritime transport, ways to support efforts to refloat and rehabilitate Syrian ports, and enhance their operational readiness. In addition, the discussions included training and capacity-building programs for port personnel, contributing to improved performance and higher service quality in line with international standards.
