Aleppo, Jan. 16 (SANA) Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, on Thursday visited the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods of Aleppo in northwest Syria, amid the continued return of residents to their homes after stability was restored in the two areas.
Olabi met with Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib at the governorate building, where both stressed the importance of conveying an accurate and realistic picture of conditions in Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud, reflecting the current phase and the challenges facing the neighborhoods, and ensuring that information reaches relevant international bodies.
Following the meeting, Olabi and the accompanying delegation conducted a field tour of Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud, meeting a number of residents who had returned to their homes and reviewing their general living conditions.
The visit comes as part of ongoing follow-up on the situation in the two neighborhoods after residents’ return, and to reaffirm the presence of state institutions alongside them in support of stability and the recovery process.
Days earlier, the Syrian Arab Army’s operations command and security forces carried out a precise and carefully planned operation in the two neighborhoods to protect civilians and restore security and stability. The operation followed the use of the areas by SDF organization as launch points for attacks on residential districts and public facilities in Aleppo, which resulted in dozens of civilian casualties.
The operation was completed efficiently and in full compliance with humanitarian standards.
