Brasília, Sept. 23 (SANA) Resistance training such as weightlifting and bodyweight exercises may trigger changes in fat-burning processes and adipose tissue function before a noticeable reduction in body weight, researchers at Brazil’s University of Campinas found.
Medical Xpress reported that the training stimulates mechanisms that help break down stored fat and limit its accumulation, particularly visceral fat around the abdominal organs. It may also reduce fat-cell size, enhance the cells’ ability to use fat as an energy source and curb processes linked to fat storage.
The researchers said such changes can occur without a perceptible change in body weight, meaning the scale may not reflect physiological changes during the early stages of exercise.
They cautioned that the findings do not necessarily indicate rapid weight loss and said further studies are needed to determine whether the results apply to humans and to assess the effects of long-term resistance training.
