New York, Sept. 23 (SANA) Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called on Wednesday for the full and immediate implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the war in Gaza, saying the establishment of a Palestinian state and an end to the occupation were key pillars of regional security and stability.
Speaking as co-chair of a high-level meeting titled “The Way Forward: One Year After the New York Declaration and the Comprehensive Peace Plan,” bin Farhan said security in the region should be based on interdependence and mutual interests rather than on the security of one party at the expense of another, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
He called for unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza and for efforts to unify the Gaza Strip and the West Bank under the Palestinian National Authority.
Bin Farhan welcomed steps taken by France, Britain, Canada and a growing number of other countries to recognize the State of Palestine and strengthen accountability regarding illegal settlements. He urged countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to take that step.
He also stressed the need to confront settlement expansion, settler violence and annexation policies, while preserving the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
The Saudi foreign minister called on all parties to reject violence, hatred and incitement and to foster an environment conducive to peace and reconciliation.
Saudi Arabia would continue working with its partners to achieve what he described as a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace based on the Arab Peace Initiative, relevant U.N. resolutions and the New York Declaration, he said.
The effort aims to end the conflict, guarantee rights and security for all and open new prospects for stability, cooperation and prosperity across the region, bin Farhan said.
Separately, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates called on Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan to adhere to a ceasefire in Gaza, end Israeli violations and ensure the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid and early recovery supplies to the Strip.
The ministers issued the statement on Tuesday following a meeting in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the U.N. General Assembly.
