Cairo, Aug. 18 (SANA) Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi on Monday strongly condemned Israel’s announced rejection of the roadmap for completing implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as its rejection of a Palestinian state.
In a statement published on the Parliament’s website, al Yamahi said the position represents a flagrant challenge to international will and deliberate efforts to thwart political and diplomatic initiatives to stop the war and end the suffering of the Palestinian people, undermining prospects for a just and comprehensive peace.
Al Yamahi said the Israeli occupation government continues to evade its international obligations and approach peace initiatives through force and the imposition of a fait accompli, demonstrating that continuing the aggression and prolonging the war are political choices regardless of the humanitarian catastrophe facing civilians in Gaza.
He welcomed a joint statement by several Arab and Islamic countries holding Israel responsible for obstructing peace efforts, stressing that the unified position sends a clear message that the international community must move from condemnation to practical and binding measures to halt Israeli violations and compel the occupation to comply with international legitimacy resolutions.
Al-Yamahi called on the international community and regional and international parliaments to adopt a firmer position toward Israel’s intransigence and exert effective political and legal pressure to compel the occupation to abide by the roadmap, halt its crimes and violations against Palestinians, and implement relevant international resolutions, leading to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
US President Donald Trump announced on Jan. 17 of this year the formation of a Board of Peace for the Gaza Strip and its members, days after US Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of Trump’s plan for Gaza, which Israel rejected. The 20-point plan includes establishing a transitional technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza.
