Beirut, Sept. 11 (SANA) A blast carried out by Israeli occupation forces in southern Lebanon generated seismic waves equivalent to a magnitude 4.2 earthquake, Lebanon’s National Center for Geophysics said.

The blast occurred Thursday at Ali al-Taher Hill in the Nabatieh district, sending tremors through the surrounding area, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

The National Center for Geophysics, part of Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research, said seismic waves were detected at 9:08 p.m. local time across all of its monitoring stations.

The center attributed the seismic activity to the blast at Ali al-Taher, saying the resulting ground motion was comparable to that of a magnitude 4.2 earthquake.

Separately, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 4.1 seismic event in the area, locating it about 13 kilometers west of Nabatieh at a depth of 10 kilometers.

NNA said the powerful blast at Ali al-Taher Hill, on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, caused strong tremors and a loud explosion that was heard across Nabatieh and nearby areas.
