Beirut, Sept. 06 (SANA) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned renewed Israeli attacks on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon on Sunday, calling the targeting of state institutions and health facilities a dangerous escalation and urging immediate international action.
Lebanon’s National News Agency quoted Aoun as saying the attacks went beyond repeated violations of the cessation-of-hostilities agreement and the framework agreement by striking Lebanese state institutions and public-service facilities, as well as a hospital and health centers.
He said the targeting of a Finance Ministry building, following an earlier attack on a State Security center, showed what he described as an expanding pattern of attacks extending beyond claimed military targets to civilian government offices and health facilities.
The Lebanese president held Israel fully responsible for the continuing escalation and called on the United States and the international community to act urgently to halt the violations and hold those responsible to account.
Aoun said Lebanon would continue its commitment to protecting its sovereignty, stability in the south and the safety of its citizens despite the attacks.
Earlier Sunday, Israeli strikes on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon killed four people and injured 20 others. The strikes caused extensive damage to historic buildings, government premises and dozens of shops.
