Deir Ezzor, Sept. 29 (SANA) Gas supplies from eastern Syria’s Jbessa plant to power stations were halted Monday after an explosion sparked a fire on a pipeline near Deir Ezzor, an energy official said, describing the incident as an act of sabotage.
The fire broke out on a pipeline between al-Shoula and Deir Ezzor after a sectional valve exploded, according to Hisham al-Saleh, head of the gas sector at the Syrian Petroleum Company.
Al-Saleh told SANA that firefighters moved to isolate the pipeline on both sides of the affected section and were working to extinguish the blaze as gas pressure fell.
No information was immediately provided on casualties, the extent of the damage or when gas supplies to power stations were expected to resume.
The area between al-Shoula and Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria contains infrastructure and pipelines used for gas production and transportation.
