Islamabad, Sept. 10 (SANA) Pakistan and Türkiye on Thursday welcomed the United Kingdom’s decision to ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and impose restrictions on related services, reaffirming their support for the Palestinian cause.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on X that the positions were expressed during a phone call between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The two officials discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as a number of regional developments.
Dar and Fidan expressed support for a joint statement issued by eight Arab and Islamic countries welcoming the British move. They also backed a statement issued by the United Kingdom and a number of European countries on the two-state solution.
The two foreign ministers stressed the importance of continuing consultations and close coordination on regional issues and strengthening cooperation within the regional quartet comprising Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan and Türkiye.
On Wednesday, the foreign ministers of eight Arab and Islamic countries welcomed Britain’s decision to ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements, as well as its intention to join 12 countries in taking similar steps to impose trade restrictions on such settlements. They said the measures were consistent with the requirements of international law.
Britain announced on Tuesday that it would ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the West Bank and implement a comprehensive sanctions regime. It said Israel “turns a blind eye to the ethnic cleansing” carried out by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank.
