Washington, July 24 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that any damage caused to ships or cargoes by Iranian attacks in the Gulf region would be compensated using frozen Iranian assets held under U.S. control.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said: “Let this statement serve as a declaration: from now on and until further notice, any damages caused to ships, cargoes or anything related to them will be compensated from Iranian funds held by the United States and under its control.”
The remarks came after the U.S. military resumed a naval blockade of Iranian ports on July 15 in response to what Washington described as ongoing Iranian attacks on maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Shipping disruptions in the region have increased as U.S. strikes on Iran have intensified and Tehran has targeted several Gulf states, Jordan and vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Vessel tracking data showed that traffic through the strategic waterway had fallen to its lowest level in more than two months.
