Amman, May 5 (SANA) Jordan reaffirmed on Tuesday its commitment to supporting the voluntary return of Syrian refugees in line with international law, Jordan’s Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani said.
Momani said in a post on X that Jordan continues to play a humanitarian role despite mounting pressures, as part of efforts to support stability and assist those in need.
He said more than 192,000 Syrian refugees registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have voluntarily returned to Syria since the fall of the deposed regime.
Momani said he discussed with UNHCR representative in Jordan Maria Stavropoulou the importance of maintaining coordination and strengthening cooperation, particularly in communication and media efforts, to ensure a unified approach to the issue.
He added that Jordan would continue to uphold its humanitarian responsibilities toward refugees in a way that preserves their dignity and ensures safe living conditions.
Earlier on Tuesday, UNHCR in Jordan said more than 190,000 registered Syrian refugees had returned to Syria since Dec. 8, 2024. It added that more than 16,000 refugees have returned since the start of this year, including 4,500 in January, 3,900 in February, 3,400 in March and 4,000 in April.
