Damascus, Oct. 15 (SANA) Syria’s Grain Establishment has signed a memorandum of understanding with Al-Jaraki Investment Company to rehabilitate, upgrade and operate six mills under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement, the establishment said Thursday.
The agreement covers the rehabilitation of existing and damaged facilities, modernization of production lines and equipment, upgrades to operating and control systems, and improvements in energy efficiency. It also includes mill management and maintenance, quality-control measures and technical training for employees.
The six mills are Nasiriyah and Ghazlaniyah in Damascus Countryside, Salamiyah in Hama, and Jableh, Latakia and Sahel in Latakia province. Their combined production capacity is 3,000 tons per day, according to the establishment.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry for Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Maher Khalil al-Hassan said the agreement would support efforts to rehabilitate the food-processing sector and strengthen food security. He added that the General Directorate of Internal Trade would provide support and facilities for the project.
Grain Establishment Director General Mohammad Tareq al-Sayyadi said the project aimed to improve production infrastructure, enhance product quality and ensure the mills could continue operating after years of neglect and damage during the war.
In May, the establishment signed a separate memorandum with Faz Investment Company to develop and operate several mills in different provinces under a long-term partnership.
The establishment did not specify the investment value, implementation timetable or expected increase in production under the new agreement.
