Beijing, June 11 (SANA) China on Thursday urged the United States and Iran to immediately halt military operations and return to negotiations, as fighting between the two countries intensified and heightened fears of a wider regional conflict.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was closely monitoring developments and called on both sides to support international efforts aimed at reducing tensions and securing a comprehensive ceasefire.

“We urge the relevant parties to stop military operations as soon as possible and return to the track of dialogue and negotiation,” Lin said, according to AFP.

Lin said China remains in contact with all parties involved, including Iran, and would continue efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

The comments came a day after Beijing expressed deep concern over renewed exchanges of strikes between Washington and Tehran and called on all sides to avoid further escalation.

The latest fighting has raised international concerns about the potential expansion of the conflict and its impact on global energy markets, shipping routes and regional security.
