Caracas, July 2 (SANA) The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,295, while more than 11,000 people have been injured, Venezuelan authorities said.
AFP quoted Jorge Rodríguez, president of Venezuela‘s National Assembly, as saying in the latest official update that 2,295 people had been killed in the disaster and more than 11,000 others injured.
The two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, triggered the collapse of entire residential complexes and prompted extensive search-and-rescue operations for survivors trapped beneath the rubble. They are among the deadliest seismic disasters in Latin America‘s history.
The previous official toll stood at 1,943 deaths, with more than 10,500 people injured, around 15,000 displaced, and 6,461 survivors rescued since emergency operations began.
On June 27, Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management deployed an international search-and-rescue team to Venezuela to support relief efforts following the earthquakes, working alongside the international rescue team of Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya).
