Capitals, June 12 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump held separate phone calls on Thursday with Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as diplomatic efforts intensified around a proposed agreement between Washington and Tehran.
According to statements from Qatar’s and Kuwait’s state news agencies, the discussions focused on regional security, efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and the outcome of negotiations between the United States and Iran.
During his call with the Qatari emir, Trump said understandings reached in the talks had been approved by all parties involved, with support from several countries including Qatar. He added that work was continuing on final arrangements ahead of the signing of an agreement.
The Qatari leader welcomed efforts to resolve disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, reaffirming Doha’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening regional and international stability.
In a separate call, Trump and Kuwait’s crown prince discussed coordination regarding the proposed U.S.-Iran agreement and stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability across the region. The Kuwaiti leader also expressed support for efforts to reach a diplomatic settlement.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump announced that planned U.S. air strikes against Iran had been cancelled, saying discussions with Tehran had been elevated to the highest levels of Iran’s leadership and had received approval.
The development marks a sharp shift from Trump’s earlier warnings of potential military action against Iran, underscoring what appears to be a renewed push for a negotiated settlement between the longtime adversaries.
