Washington, May 25 (SANA) The United States and Iran have reached understandings covering about 95% of a potential framework agreement related to Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz, Fox News reported Monday, citing informed sources.
According to the report, Tehran has agreed to the general framework of the deal, while negotiations have entered their final stages. The sources said discussions are continuing over the precise wording of several clauses.
The report added that negotiators reached a preliminary understanding regarding Iran’s nuclear stockpiles and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, while legal and technical discussions remain ongoing.
The sources said the agreement is not expected to be signed immediately, but indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump could grant negotiators an additional five to seven days to finalize the deal.
According to Fox News, the sources also indicated that Washington could resume airstrikes against Iran if negotiations fail to produce an agreement aligned with U.S. interests.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that an announcement related to a possible agreement with Iran could be made within hours, in what could signal a diplomatic breakthrough amid recent regional tensions.
