IAEA chief urges restraint, warns against attacks on nuclear facilities
Session of the United Nations Security Council

New York, May 20 (SANA)  International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi called on all parties in the Middle East to exercise maximum restraint and avoid targeting nuclear facilities, stressing that targeting the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates is “completely unacceptable.”

Grossi made the remarks during a United Nations Security Council session on regional developments, according to details published Tuesday on the agency’s website.

He warned of the serious consequences of attacks on nuclear facilities, describing the current situation as “deeply concerning.”

Grossi said the IAEA stands ready to respond to any emergency in Gulf states and is closely monitoring developments in the region.

He also expressed support for diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring the continuation of the agency’s verification activities at Iranian nuclear facilities.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, along with several Arab and international parties, condemned the targeting of the Barakah nuclear power plant on Monday, describing the incident as unacceptable and a violation of international law.
