Vienna, March 2 (SANA) – Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said Monday there are currently no indications that Iranian nuclear facilities have been damaged following U.S. and Israeli strikes.
Speaking during a special session of the agency’s Board of Governors on Iran, Grossi said inspections and available information show no signs that nuclear sites — including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Tehran Research Reactor, or other fuel-cycle facilities — had been hit.
Grossi added that efforts to re-establish communication with Iran’s nuclear regulatory authorities are ongoing, though contact has not yet been restored, expressing hope that essential communication channels would resume as soon as possible.
He warned that the targeting of areas hosting nuclear power plants, research reactors, or associated fuel storage facilities — whether in Iran or elsewhere in the region — increases risks to nuclear safety and security.
Describing the situation as “deeply concerning,” Grossi cautioned that a potential radiological release cannot be entirely ruled out, noting that such an event could require large-scale evacuations. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation.
The remarks come amid intensifying exchange of strikes between Israel and the United States on one side and Iran on the other since Saturday.
