Occupied Jerusalem, May 18 (SANA) Medical sources in Gaza Strip have warned of a severe deterioration in diagnostic imaging services in operating hospitals, as the health sector continues to suffer extensive destruction amid the ongoing Israeli war on the territory.
According to the Palestinian news agency “WAFA,” Gaza has lost around 76% of its medical imaging equipment, while only 24% remains in limited operation under heavy pressure, amid a critical shortage of maintenance and spare parts.
The sources said MRI services have been completely halted following the destruction of nine machines, resulting in the loss of one of the most essential diagnostic tools.
Only five CT scanners out of 18 are currently operational, while the number of standard X-ray machines has dropped from 88 to 33, most of which are outdated and frequently malfunctioning.
They also noted a shortage of fluoroscopy devices in operating rooms, with only five remaining out of 16, significantly hindering complex surgical procedures.
The sources warned that the continued degradation of imaging capacity is further straining an already overwhelmed health system, as most hospitals have gone out of service and medical evacuations have sharply declined.
