Kyiv, May 5 (SANA) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Monday that Ukraine would observe a temporary ceasefire from the night of May 5 to May 6, hours after Russia declared its own unilateral truce.
In a post on X, Zelensky said Kyiv had not received any formal request or communication from Moscow regarding the ceasefire mechanisms discussed in Russian media. He added that Ukraine would proceed with its own suspension of hostilities during the stated period.
“Until now, no official request has been addressed to Ukraine regarding the ceasefire mechanisms discussed in Russian social media. However, we announce the start of a ceasefire from the night of May 5 to May 6,” Zelensky said.
Earlier on Monday, Russia announced a unilateral ceasefire to coincide with Victory Day commemorations in Moscow marking the end of World War II. It warned that any violations would prompt a firm response.
