Beirut, May 18 (SANA) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed that Lebanon’s approach in negotiations with Israel is based on Israeli withdrawal, a ceasefire, and the deployment of the Lebanese army along the border as fundamental principles.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Aoun stated on Monday that Lebanon has clearly defined the foundations of the negotiations, which also include the return of displaced persons and securing economic and financial support for the country, stressing that any proposals outside these principles are “unacceptable.”
The Lebanese president also emphasized that his national responsibility requires making every possible effort to shield Lebanon from the repercussions of war.
On Friday, the US Department of State announced the extension of the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel for an additional 45 days.
The same day marked the conclusion of the third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, held at the US State Department headquarters, following earlier rounds on April 14 and April 23.
